HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The High Commissioner's cable, dated London; August 14, states:— Mutton—There is no alteration in mutton since last week. Canterbury and North Island is quoted at 2y 4 d. The lamb market is demoralised. The stocks on hand are heavy and widely distributed amongst agents, who arc pushing sales. The average prices of New Zealand lamb are: Canterbury 3'/ 8 (l, North Island 2%<L Beef—The market is % firm. The supplies of American chille'd heef are small. New Zealand hinds are quoted at 3%d, fores 2%d. Butter—The market is firm, with an increasing deimand for the better grades. Choicest New eZaland butter is quoted at 100s' per cwt. (nominal), Danish 114s, Siberian 100s. Cheese—The market is firm, with a tendency iu favor of huyers. New Zcaiand 60s.
Hemp—The market is very firm, with very little New Zealand offering. Reports from Manila indicate a large tusiness. New Zealand hemp, good fa,r grade on spot, per ton, £25 las; fair grade o u spot £24 10s 1 ; fair current Manila on spot £25 10s, SepteiuoerDeeember shipments, New Zealand good fair grade £25, fair grade £24, fair current Manila £25. The Manila output is 17,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. It is reported that the American crop is largu and of average quality. Averugcp rice for New Zcaiand cocksfoot feed weighing 1711k per bushel on spot, 60s per cwt. (nominal). The wool market is firm, with more enquiry for Bradford tops. Prices are as foliow: Thirty-sixes low eros-shreds ll%d, forties do.
