An epidemic of diphtheria haß broken cut in Lyttelton, and five cases have been reported in three families, one being fatal. Owing to the "(rant of an infectious diseases liospitad the cases cannot be properly isolated, and anxiety is felt lest the outbreak should spread. As it is, the treatment of the cases is putting a severe tax on the medical men, and is also interfering with their work in other directions.
Asked by a Christehurch Press reporter if there was any likelihood of New Zealand being asked to reciprocate with the Commonwealth of Australia in regard to the Australian currency, the Hon. J. A. Millar, Acting-Minister for Finance, said that he could not say whether it was likely or not, as there had been no communication from tiio Federal Government on the subject, "Take care of the pennies' and the pounds will take care of themselves," if iiTi old motto. The Te Aro Roman Catholic parish (says the Wellington Post) furnishes a case in point.
