TROUBLE OVER THE LAND. By Cable—Press Association.—Copyrigflt Received 13, 10.15 ji.in. Melbourne, August 13. Information has readied the Presbyterian Church authorities that over 20 French surveyors are engaged in surveying the land in the. New Hebrides an:l that a large number of British settlers have been served with notices that certain areas are claimed by the French. With a view to conserving the interest* of the British and Australian missionaries and the natives, the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, in conjunction with the Burns, Philp Company, is sending a couple of surveyors to the New Hebrides to survey the mission lands and holdings of such British settlers' as avail of their services. When the survey is completed a legal expert will proceed to the island in order to sec that British claims may be properly presented before the joint Land Court.
