HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT

The Whitcley Hall was packed uncomfortably last night, when a concert was given in aid of the High School sports fund. The programme •comprised vocal and instrumental items bv well-known amateurs, a farce entitled"" Dobs, Bobs and Nobs,'' and two scenes fro,;i "Tnc Rivals," staged by the boys iif the school. The farce was very laughable, and tin- juvenile peiformers acquitted themselves well. Those taking part were Masters !>. Amlnirv (Dobs), H. Haily (Bobs), and F. Clark (Nobs), G. llurle, R. Adlam, X. Howell, ana v...vy. '•The Rivals" was staged with all due a'tti ntion to detail, and the costuming and setting were good, whilst several of the characters were taken in a style that suggested some possibilities in "the way of histrionic talent. The performers were for the most part quite at home on the board*, and t/ie lines were spoken very correctly. The characters were: Bob Acres (P. Ambury), Sir Lucius O'Trigger (R. Bayly), David, a valet (G. llurle), Captain Absolute (F. Clark), and Mr. Falkland (N. Maione). The stage arrangements were in the hands of the teachers, who received almost invaluable assistance from Mr. Y, Fitzherbert. The latter was, in fact, much in evidence all through the concert, his monologue and recitations being given in finished style, and recalled again and again. Miss Ainsworth, who was in capital voice, gave a most acceptable item. Mr Nixon, who possessed a voice full of quality, earned a vociferous encore. Mr. E. Clarke, who was evidently suffering from throat trouble; gave two songs (one with violin obligato by Mr. H. S. Salt), and was heartily applauded. Miss Brown played the overture (pianoforte solo), and later, with Miss Hurle, took pant in a pianoforte duet, both items being nicely played, and apparently fully appreciated. Mr. E. A. Golding was Hie accompanist. •During the evening Mr. E. Pridhain, the principal, conveyed to the performers his appreciation of their assistance.
