Lieut. Slmckleton, in the course of an interview, stated that the proceeds of the lectures were already mortgaged. He explained that a group of Englishmen who promised assistance to his late expedition withdrew at the last moment .owing to tlip. American financial crisis. Lieut. Shaekleton bad to raise €20.000 upon personal guarantees. Australia's and New Zealand's contributions, lie said, were used to secure additional stores and scientific otiuipinent. He hopes by the proceeds from bis book, lectures nm] personal subscriptions, to repay £20,000 bv due date, July 1010.
