BOROUGH COUNCIL.
COMMITTEE REPORTS. The Borougli Council meets this evening, when the following reports will be presented:— ■' ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE. Tilio Electric Light Committee .repurls':—That Hie a|>|>liealion of the Police Department fur light in the police cells be grunted: that .Mr. Collis be informed that tile committee adheres to its previous derision not to entertain his iccpiest foe reduced rates for lighting at his studio; that the time is inopportune for submitting to the ratepayers any proposal for the raising of any loan for the extension of the power plant, and no steps be taken in that direction fo r the present; that the question of having a separate banking account for the electric working account be referred to the Finance Committee to report upon; that the chairman be authorised to' lend a few poles to St. Mary's vestry during the time the alterations are being effected to St. Mary's Church. RESERVES COMMITTEE. The Reserves Committee recommended.—That the borough engineer he instructed to report on the condition of the cemetery road from the gate to the niortuary chapel, and the cost of putting the road into effective repair; that the sexton procure a duplicate kev of the gates, such key to he kept at the cemetery cottage; that resolution 2 of the Reserves Commit/tee, dated December 14th, 1908, be rescinded and the following substituted: "That provided the monumental masons undertake in writing to pay for any damage done by them to any of the roads in the cemetery (with the exception of the road from the gate to the mortuary chapcl)_ they be permitted to cart material into the cemetery at any time, the key to be obtained from the sexton or at the cemetery cottage; that th<; N'orth Tarauaki Hunt Club he granted permission to make a charge to the public for admission to the racecourse on the oth September next, such charge to be in accordance with the Recreation Deserve and Racecourse .Act; that the Ladies' -Ambulance Association be granted the use of the old reading room on payment of .the cost of lighting; that the attention of the various lessees of borough endowments be drawn to the condition of their leases affecting the painting and general upkeep of the buildings on the lands leased to them; that the borough engineer be authorised to metal the cemetery road from the gate to the mortuary chapel; that the sum of £3O be transferred from the general account to the credit of the cemetery account; that the trees ordered last year from Messrs Morshead and Co. be planted on Marsland Hill; that Ihe plan of t-lie building proposed to lie erected on tlie Council's reserve, Old Hospital road, by the lessee, Mr. C. E Ucllnnger, be approved. ABATTOIR MAXAGEU. The abattoir manager, Mr. T. .). Keakes, reports that during July there were slaughtered for local consumption at the abattoir,':-Cows, 111); bullocks 37; e.-iliw. 11; sheep, S(ls . ,. pigs llil; tri|,es cleaned, 171); « calves' heads. Compared with the corresponding month of last year, the figures show as follows: Increases, 4 cattle and 14 pig 1 ?; decrease*, 0 calves, U sheep, 4 lainlJi and 4 tripes. There were condemned: 7 cows, 1 bullock. <) pigs, and I sheep. Total fees for the month were 1122 10s fid; rents, ,C 35s (id. Total icvenue, c 1 20 5s 3d, a decrease of .Km ]os t>il.
