CERT! r'ICATE SUSPENDED. Auc];!.;n.i, Saturday.—The Nautical Court suspended the certificate of Capt. Dowd, master of the cutter Flora, which sank at her anchorage in Auckland harbor, one of the crew being drowned in attempting to wwini ashore. The Court decided that the vessel was leaking, overloaded, ami unscaworthy. It was also intended to recommend the Minister for .Marine to amend the Whipping and Seamen's Act to make the law respecting the load-li;ie apply to vessels of this class.
PROVIDING FOR CASTAWAYS. Melbourne, Saturday. -'Mr. Deakin has' announced that steps are betag taken to provide boats and provisions at the Middleton Reef for the use of castaways. A LONG TOW ENDED. The Rosamond arrived from Wellington, I'ietou and Nelson about a quarter to two on Saturday afternoon with 158 tons of cargo, including 125 sacks chaff and 25 sacks barley from "Pieton, and 301) sacks basic slag. The cargo included transhipments ex Manuka from Sydney, Moeraki from Melbourne, and Arahura from Greymouth. niMU. The Rimu was unable to leave Wangaiiui on Satnrdav owing to the condition of the bar but she got-out at 1.411 p.m. yesterday. An effort will be made to work Opunakc, for which port the steamer has about oil tons of cargo. A XKW 1.1 XK.
