TARAXAKI v. AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Lust Night. The Taranaki reps. endeavored to wrest the Xew Zealand Hockey Association's shield from Auckland yesterday. Imt success did not, attend their efforts they being beaten liy 4 goals to nil. lii (lie first half Barry and Mason scored for Auckland, and'Mather and Mason again in the second. Although it was their first match this peasoji, the Aueh-la-.idors showed splendid coiuhination, and the pace and tackling abilities of their forwards frequently nonplussed the opposition rearguard, of'whom Anderson (2), Avery and Xicol were the most i prominent. Owing to the recent rain, I the ground was' on the heavy side.
