VIOLENT THUNDERSTORM

A violent thunderstorm passed over Auckland early last night and caused serious interruption to telegraph communication between Auckland and Hamilton, some sixteen wires being disconnected. So fa r no serious damage is reported. Feilding, Saturday. The weather is exceedingly rough. Ust night thunder and lightning wer ■? frequent, heavy hail storms were experienced, and a howling gale raged. The rivers and streams are flooded. .More rain fell to-dav.
Palmerston X., Saturday Night, lli'iivy rains yesterday increased tno Hoods in various parts' of the district between here and Foxton, and tliere is still a large amount of water lying. Dr. Fiudlay was unable to get through from Feilding to Foxton to open the Post Office, and had to return to Wellington. The Sandon-Fcilding road has been rendered impassable by a land slip. The Makino and Mangaon e overflowed their banks. Sliow fell yesterday at Feildin» and Apiti. The Huahine.s to-day arc covered with snow right down to the.r base, but it is rapidly thawing in tu* warm sunshine.
