PERSONAL.
The Hon. K. MeKcnZie journeyed from Ophir to Alexandra and Clyde yesterday. Several deputations (states a lV«s wire) waited on the Minister in regard to irrigation and mining matters. Mr. McKcnzie will proceed to Queenstown to-dav.
Tile death occurred at Waitara yesterday of lire. C. 11. Stott. The cieceas- '■ ed lady was well known in the district tor her large-heartedness in assisting all cases of sickness. She. was n nrominent worker in connection with St. John's Anglican Church, and for some years organist. Mrs. Stent olliciatcd as organist at the church last .Sunday, and was taken ill late in the day. Mrs. Stott was also one of the foremost workers in all social matters where C"h:> assistance of Indices was required, and will be greatly missed. She is survived bv her husband, and a family of five daughters. "Sir Joseph Ward," says the Pall Mall Gazette, "is an amazing example of the rapid promotion that awaits men of energy and merit in the Dominion of New Zealand. At 21 he became a initnicipal councillor, at 23 a Mayor, at 30 an M.P. Since then lie has been a Colonial Treasurer. Minister for Railways, ami Povtmafiter-fleneral, and he succeeded 'Dick' Sedclon as Prime Minister almost as a matter of course. All this and he is still i u the early fifties.
