The tug Irresistible had a thrillintf experience off Newcastle while (owing *" Ihe barque Antiope. A sudden gale arose with'tremendous teas. The Anliope, which was carrying considerable jail, raced away and swung the tug round and buried he r under the nea, almost to the funnel, with the stein under. She was on the point of capsizing when the mate with a- hatchet severed the line and the tug righted * herself and reached Newcastle without the Antiope.
