Shares— WaiM, buyers £0 3s !)d, sellers £0 Us 3d; Junctions, buyers 31s 3d, sellers Ms Od. Hides—There is a good demand for bides, and prices are hardening. ,\ T ew Zealand heavy ox is quoted at o%d, light O'/vd, seconds and cows' Oil; .Australian, heavy 4%d, light 4%d, seconds and cows 4%d.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. The Industries and Commerce Department is in receipt of the following cablegram from the High Commissioner dated London, 31st July:— ' Mutton.—The market is very dull and unfavorable, indications continue. Canterbury brands and North Island 2y;d. Lambs.—The market is depressed and very unsettled. Competition amongst holders to clear their stock has lowered values. Canterbury 3'/ s d, North Island
lieef.—The market is quiet, with less demand. New Zealand hinds 3%d. fores 2%d.
Butter— The market is quiet, and prices have slightly weakened, except for best quality. Clioiec New Zealand 108s nominal, Danish 113s, Siberian 100s. The cheese market is quiet and prices slightly weaker. There is good local demand for X\v Zealand at Cls.
The hemp market is in better demand. New Zealand good fair grade on spot £24 15s; fair grade on spot £23 10s, forward .shipments at the same price; fair current manila on spot £24, forward shipments £23 His. The Manila output was 20,000 bales.
The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business. The average price for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171bs per bushel, on spot 00s per cwt. nominal.
The hop market is advancing gradually. The crop is small and of inferior quality.
The wheat market is [inn. but not advanced. There is good demand for New Zealand. Long-berried wheat on spot, ex-granary, per quarter of 400lbs 45s Ud; short-berried 455,
Oats.—The market is rather duller, but good demand continues. New Zealand oats, short sparrowbills, ex-granary, on spot, per quarter of 3841bs 20s lid;' Danish, ex-granary mi spot, per quarter of 3201bs 10s (id.
Hcans.—The market remains firm on account of the difficulty of obtaining supplies. New Zealand hems, f.a.q., old crop, per 5041bs ,17s Od.
leas.—The market is firm owing to reduced supplies, X ew Zealand peas partridge, per 5(I411« 4»s lid; blue, per (iOJlbs 3lis. '
