Ti E LATEST LEVIATHAN The t»;u-serew steamer Mcgantic, built by .Messrs Harland and Wolff, Ltd.. for the White Star Dominion Line, left &6lfqfst Lough for Liverpool, whence she was to have sailed on her first voyage on the Canadian service on June 17. The Mcgantic is a sister ship to the Laurentic, but she has twin-screw, whereas the Laurentie has a combination of reciprocating engines and bine. The new vessel is designed • carry a large quantity'of cargo, and full complement of passengers—about 2(il) first, 430 second, and over 1000 thud-class. Ihe passenger accommodation is in every way up to the White 15 tar standard. The first-class diningsaloon, a handsome apartment on tho saloon ileck, extends the full width of the ship, and contains .seating accommodation for 212 people. Pannelled in the fashion of the time of Charles Il„ it is painted chastely and simp]v with a delicate and ivory-like white. The room nas the popular 'well'' arrangement overhead, with verandah for the bandstand, and the tables are arranged on the restaurant principle. The lounge and reading-room are on the upper promenade deck. In the smoke-room, also •on the deck, the walls are hunc with stamped leather, and the seats are deep and luxuriously unliolstered. The sec-ond-class staterooms are on the shelter;leck, and the saloon on the middle deck. The promenade spaces form a special attraction, the fullest advanta-" having been taken of the vessel's size to pron<le opportunities for recreation. The Laurentic on her first voyage fulfilled the highest expectations of her, and it IS safe to predict that tile Mcgantic will also prove a favorite with Canadian passengers, says a Home paper.
