EDUCATION BOARD.
The Tavanaki Education Board held its ordinary monthly meeting on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs. A. Morton, '.!. A. Adlaui, J. D. ilorisou, it. Trimble, W. Rogers, and \V. McL. Kennedy. The committee further recommended that the present arrangement with tin- board's architects he terminated, and that in future they ho employed only when tlieir services are actually required, and he paid the usual commission for such services.
In moving the adoption of the report, Mr. Morton said that the last clause followed naturally upon the appointment of the working overseer. Much of the work previously done under their supervision was now: being done and supervised by the overseer, and there was no need for the retention of the services of a permanent architect. Tlie report was adopted. KINA ROAD FOOTBRIDGE. Mr. Ad'lam reported that lie had visited the Kina road school, and had agreed with representatives of the committee that the Board would find wire and flooring for the hridge across the river, the settlers providing the posts and erecting the bridge. SCHOOL GARDENS.
air. 0. l'\ Dewhirst, secretary of the Egmont Village school committee, asked for mi explanation as to what system was followed in allotting the marks for school gardens.—The information asked for wih be supplied. The arcliitects', chairman's, and truant inspector's reports, covering the routine work of the month, iverc adopted. Mr. A. Lusk, chairman of the Oaonni committee, requested the Hoard to subsidise the expenditure of £3 upon hooks for a school library. This money represented a balance from the school I-'icnic fund. It "was decided to inform the committee that the Hoard's regulations make 110 provision for paying anlisidies to school libraries. The action of the Waitui and Hillsborough committees in closing their schools on account of epidemics was confirmed. The explanation of Mr. Long a< to non-attendance at the Piiraugp school on Olio day during the recent wet weather was accepted, and .Mr. Pennington will be liotilied of the fact. Mrs. Warner, teacher at liaiipulia. forwarded explanations asked for regarding attendance anil absentee returns. The error complained of wns admitted as a case of inadverleiice.
