Hall-Jones (High Commissioner for New Zealand) held a reception to Sir Joseph and Lady Ward at the Westminster Palace Hotel. Sir Joseph, in response to the welcome 1 said the Defence Conference was concerned. not with the defence of Kngland, but the defence of the Empire as a whole, and the delegates wished to co-operate in making T>mperinl defence bigger, better, and more indestructible than at present.
