PETROLEUM

MR. BERRY'S OFFER. Iln accordance with the offer made by Mr. D. Berry at the meeting of the Taranaki Petroleum Company, and the later terms of the company's manager, Mr. Simpson, the directors have decided that Mr. Berry be given an opportunity to test the capacity of the No. 2 well. Mr. Berry will accordingly take charge of operations at this well as soon as the necessary agreement has been signed, and will have eight weeks in which to "make good" his offer. At the end of that term the manager will resume control of the bore.

In the meantime the manager is to devote the whole of his time at iso. 3 bore, where boring and testing will be carried on continuously iA double shifts. It is to be hoped that the conditions of Mr. Berry's test of No. 2 are suc'i that nothing will be done that will impair the proved producing capacity of the well. We have no doubt that Mr. Berry will leave nothing undone to increase the daily flow of oil, but care must, be taken that the present satisfactory condition of affairs at the bore are not being subjected to risk. So long ias that assurance is forthcoming, everyone will heartily wish Mr. Berry success in his efforts.
