Wellington, Last Night. \ In connection with, the Government's proposal to afford facilities fo* retrenchi £d civil servants to go oa the.land, the i Commissioners of, Crown. Lands in Wellington, Taranaki and Auckland are getting ready areas to lie opened up that are most /convenient. The land will be ' available (for selection in October next. • It is anticipated that about 100 sections, .averaging 'between ISO and 200 acres each, will be placed 'on the market for : this purpose in Wellington district; 100 sections of the same area in Auckland; and about 120 sections in Taranaki district. When the Commissioners have re- ' . ceived the necessary information re- . carding the roads to give access to these lands, applicants will bfe invited ih each district-from ex-civil servants and other landless persona, and the respective Land Boards will then consider the .whole of the applications and select (lose deemed suitable to go on the land. A Miol will then be held between the fatter for choice of the sections. It is ' hoped sufficient land will be made avail- ' able to 'satisfy all applicants, but it lias to be remembered that suitable Crov.n lands of such comparatively email .;:wsa are very limited, and there is always the necessary consideration , ' that such land has to be selected within k-., geven or ten miles from the main line t 0f railway. v The land to be offered in Wellington Phr district is principally forest country. f 'ln Taranaki it comprises forest and * open land, and in Auckland it is mostly open land, partially covered with forest ' ; in some cases. J"' The Commissioners of Crown Lands 'if'.' will be authorised by special regulation to make advances to selectors up to 30s l an acre for 'buslifelling, ten shillings per acre for grassing, and up to £SO to assist in the building of'a dwelling on each selection. - 'r.
