The sailing - ship Leicester Castle,' which is being towed to Sydney, has hart an adventurous career. In addition to iter late mishap, about four years ago, when she was bound from San Francisco to the English Channel her crew mutinied. The men shot and killed the captain and second mate. The first mate navigated the ship to port. He was subsequently mate of the wellKnown colonial barqucntine Rio, which culled at New Plymouth, some months ago from Australia with a cargo of timber for the Harbor Board.

Before the tug Champion left Auckland for Sydney, towing the d isabled torque Leicester Castle, the captain had to deposit t!2 10s to cover income-tax on the .probable profits of the undertaking. The captain lodged a letter of protest, which is to be forwarded to the, Commissioner of Customs. In addition, , the Champion is required to carry eight more of a crew than on the voyage from Newcastle.. The authorities adopted a similar course in regard to the Norwegian schooner Alice, trading between Cook Islands and Auckland, hitherto manned below New Zealand requirements. The German steamer Walkurc arrived in Wellington on Friday last from New York. The Walkure left New York on ord May last, and, calling at .St. Vincent and Durban en route, reached Bunbury on 7th July, and came direct from the latter port to Wellington.
