Noble, Armstrong, Lover, Bardsley, and Cotter were omitted from trie Australian team. The home team was composed of Rickman, Wright, Chapman, Sale, Oliver, Needha/m, Morton, Cadman, Humphries, Warren and Lowe. Rain delayed the start. When play commenced the weather was brightening and the wicket good. Kickinanwon the tosa and elected to bat. Following are tho scores:— DERBYSHIRE.—First Innings. Wright and Morton opened the innings, and three runs were scored off Wiitty's first over. The first-named was smartly caught in the slips.^-One ■Cadman, in stepping in front of an off-break of O'Connor's, had his leg stump removed with the score still at 3. A fine catch by Carter at third man in the second attempt disposed of Chapman—Three for 17. O'Connor removed Morton's off-stump with a swerver.—Four for 45. Whitty captured Sale without an addition to the scare. A blustering wind was causing the ball to swing. Needham was beaten by a swerving ball from O'Connor.—Six for 46. One run later O'Connor, running in, took a return from Oliver.-Seven for '47. ■ '■ ■"■ \ Warren and Humphries made the best stand'of the day. Warren, after a good display, sent an easy eaten back to O'Connor.—Eight for 102. A remarkable catch was made by Macartney, who, running away at midoff, took it right-handed and disposed ~>i Rickman. ' Humphries was taken easily at miaoff - O'Connor's first six wickets were captured at a cost of 12 runs. London, July 22. When stumps were drawn Australia had lost four wickets for 217 runs. He gave a chance off Warred when eight.—Three for 81. Trumper and Macartney carried the total to 117 before the latter was dismissed. Trumper was two hours at the wicket. His display was faultless, and he was brilliant at driving, cutting, and puffins. His half-century took 80 minutes. Hopkins' innings was marked by sound play. The attendance was 15,000.
