The herioc act was performed lot I week, ,when a sensational accident occurred in tho Consolidated Mine at Bendigo. Three miners—Davis, Jlmwi and Allen—were engaged In ainlctur a shaft. Two shots were put in, ul' 'the men ascended to the level above. '■ As Allen reached the level ho missal' his footing, and fell to the! Instantly Davis rushed down the tad* der, despite the fact that the charges were due to explode at any momnt. i He found Allen, and had dragged .Mm - about five feet when the first charge exploded. The debris, however, earned in an opposite direction. Davis < then endeavoured to get Allen hito a saf c place before the second charge exploded.
