The Taranaki Poultry, Pigeon „.*a Canary Society's annual show commenced yesterday in the Drill Hall. The 1 Society, wliich was on the down grade financially, has made a brave effort this year to breast the tape of its liabilities, and the show is larger than any previous one, the schedule including a, number of popular classes of home industries, school work, hobbies, and so on. Pool- j try was shown in about tile usual numbers, and the quality as a whole was | good, whilst in sonic sections it was excellent. Most of the birds were well ■ staged, but it was evident that >mnc exhibitors had not realised the benefit accruing from a little extra care of the hirds as " show-time" approached. The judging of the poultry, pigeons, and canaries was not completed until late m the evening, which prevented the issue of printed catalogues yesterday. There were large entries in the cookery sections, and the competition was close. The response made by the various schools was satisfactory, and tne mapping shown was good. Some of the freehand drawing was hardly what freehand drawing should be, but taken on the whole the display of school work was good. The technical school pupils exhibited some very fine specimens ol woodwork, both in test tasks and finished articles. This section is well worth close inspection. Mr. R. \V. Davies showed a fine collection of native shrubs, but there were no pot plants anowa. The prize-list was as follows: PRIZE-LIST. POULTRY. GAME. Black red h«n.—F. A.
