Columns might be written of the objects and aims o:»| poultry societies, but let it suffice to say t'ilat these annual shows have the 1 I ,°f improving th c stamp of the - domestic fowl, a matter in which nearly e\ei,\one is more or less. Tlie man avlki buys a cockerel for Jialf-a-crown wants a decent amount of Jlesh upon the cockerels bones. Breeding and leedmg alone can do it. Tlie man ».to breeds his own table-birds can see u a show the various types and benefit b. v . t!u ' experience of others, without going - fancy-inad." And the farmer who gets hold of a healthy, well-bred guardian of his ilock of fowls has also something to thank poultry enthusiasts lor. Apart from the poultry, '\riuch comprises practically every breed of tae domestic fowl, ducks, turkeys, and ;*o un, the .Society has a magnificent entry of pigeons, which are a picture and a study in themselves. Cage-birds diiuuld also be a popular section. 1-or those who are soon satiated with the study of, our feathered friends Die Society is providing literally. There are classes for children's pets—and thc pets are coining forward in alarming . numbers, comprising eats, dogs, and the ' ■ I'ke. As most people know, tiic Taranaki Poultry Society wants a good leg up.'' The committee 'tax been unsparing iu its efforts to provide ii good show. Jireeilers and faneiers of birds have come forward well, and the general classes are so lnrgely entered for as t<) nmke the staging of exhibits a problem. The exhibits themselves arc. of high quality, and well worth seeing. All that remains is for the public—- " come rain, conie fmc"—to patronise the show liberally, and we hope the Society will have easily a record year. The show is being held to-day and to-morrow in the Drill Hull. ] Messrs. Ballantyhc and' Whctter, the • Board's inspectors, and Messrs.
