VOLUNTEERING.
PAIiMERSTON TOURNAMENT. By Telegr&plh,—Preaa Association. ; Palmerston N., Last Night. A meeting representing all the Palmerston corps decided to-night to join the Mounted Rifles in continuance of v 'the highly successful military tournament that has grown to such large ■ . dimensions. It was decided. to call it • - "The Royal New Zealand Military and Naval Tournament," and hold it in No- ■. member. The Commonwealth Defence Department is to -be asked to send a s contingent over and also to send a judge, lit is expected that a large '.-e----presentation of the Royal Navy and a large representation of the permanent forces will take part, and assurances of entries frojn corps all over New Zealand Itaye been' received. Last year's tournament was the largest yet held in New ' Zealand, but it twill be completely eclipsed this year. CHURCH PARADE. The Taranaki Guards held a Church parade at St. Joseph's Church on Sun- : day, the first occasion, it is understood, < ■ on which a local volunteer corps has aty: tended divine service at this church, f . There was a good muster, fifty of all . ranks. Captain Mills was in command, with Lieuts. Boon and Beadle. The ■ Kev. Father Macmanus preached an eloquent sermon op patriotism and man's duty to his God, country and home. .After the service the companv marched ; . to the Red. House Hotel, where host ?... ■ Whittle's hospitality was thoroughly ap-'-..preciated.
