SENSATIONAL MINING ACCIDENT
HEROISM OF A MINER. FACED DEATH TO SAVE A MATE. By Cable. —Press Association.—-Copyright Melbourne, July 17. A sensational accident occurred at the Consolidated mine at Bendigo and an heroic act was witnosscd. Three miners aamed Davis, Darcy and Allen were working sinking a shaft. Two shots were put in and the men ascended to the platform above. 'As Allen readied the platform he miss'ed his footing and fell to the hottorn. Instantly Davis rushed down the ladder, despite the fact that the charges wrre due to explode at any moment. He found Allen and dragged lutn a'oout five feet when the flr4 charge exploded. 'Die debris, however, was carried in an opposite direction. 'Davis then endeavored to get in a safe plate for the second explosion, which immediately occurred. Relief was tient down, and both were found alive. Allan had a broken leg, but -botk were unhurt by the blast.
