HUNT CLUB
The North Taranaki Hunt Club held a meet at Mr. P. SalwayV Bell Block, DO Thursday afternoon. The weather W»8 all that could be deaired for the sport, and the jumping competitions iWhicl took place were much enjoyed i>y the large number of spectators who ■were present to witness the events. The Garrison Band was also present, and discoursed an excellent programme during the afternoon. The club were extremely fcrtuafcte in paving placed t at tlieiij ; iSsposal such an excellent property as Sir. Salway's for the competition, as ■ll the jumps could be viewed to advantage from almost any position on the field, and the going was so good .that only two horses fell all day. After the competitions the members (STine^club jind i!ic visitors were hospitably entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs. R. Street, Mrs. Salway, and a number of lady supporters of the ciub. The following were the results: — ■ First > events-Mr. Wilkie's Cloudy Morn, ridden by the owner; 1; Mr. A. H. Halcombe's Flying Scotchman, ridden |>y Mr. Mabin, 2. Second event—Mr. Foreman's Paddy, ridden by Mr. H. Street, 1; Mr. Cole's Waihi2. Third event—Mr. Wilkie's Anecdote, ridden by owner, 1; Mr. Cliff's Kin, ridden by Mr. J. Barlow, 2. An amusing feature which was much appreciated by the spectators was the excellent jumping of Mr. P. Sole's little Hack pony, a true Irish lepper.
