The course was from I Riverton to lnvercargiU by road—the regulation Marathon distance, vi»., 26 miles 385 yards. Runners from as far '" North as (Jisborne and Taranaki entered, but'only one outsider, viz., A. Frew e (of Dnneiliii) aim-led, and he did not finish, owing to a blistered foot. There a were 13 starters, and seven finished. The I- road, owing to the partially thawed !- frost, was heavy. The Invereargill men 1- had it all their own way, and the four i- placed men were all members of the i-1 Union Harriers Club. Frew ran with y the leaders till his foot blistered.
