On Tuesday a depu tation ui three volunteer officers, repre senting their respective anus of the service waited unofficially on the Hon George Fowlds, Acting Minister for Defence, and asked that he -use his inllueyce with, the Government to invite Lord Kitchener to New Zealand. The deputation received a sympathetic hearing, and it was stated persistently in well-informed circles to-day that an invitation would be sent to the hero ol Khartoum. Jlr. tfowlds, when interviewed by a representative of the Herald thia evening, said that nothing had been decided, but that a communication had I been sent to the Hon.
