(From Our Own Correspondents.), .WAREA. The young "men of Warca have decided to hold a bachelors' ball at the beginning of next month. Mrs. George's orchestra is to supply the music and there should he a first-class turn-out. The Assembly Dauee next long night will he held on the 22nd inst. The local rille club iired the sixth round for Mr. Robiuson's trophy on Saturday last. The weather was unfavorable for good shooting, a strong, variable, right wind making it dilficult to hold the rille steady. Scores:— 200 300 hep Tl. T. R. Julian 27 24 12 03 W. H. On Wednesday evening last the spinsters gave their much talked of return ball. Over 300 invitations were issued, but, owing to the very rough night, only about 70 couples turned out. The hall was very tastefully decorated with ferns, palms, mirrors and Chinese lanterns. Festoons of puriri leaves were hung from the ceilings to the walls, and colored electric lights added greatly to the effect. A recherche supper was laid in the Foresters' Hall. Music was supplied by the Waitara Orchestra, extras being played by Misses Butler, Ratu-i----bury, Nicholls, Badley, and Sampson. The committee, comprising Misses B. Rattenbury, F. Badley C. Jensen, M. Butler, W. Tate, A. Nordloff, and 1. Nicholls (secretary) spared no cimrts to make their ball a success—nor were they disappointed. Messrs. Ballantyne and Wuetter are holding a pupil teachers' examination in the school. The work includes practical teaching and criticism. Teacners from Inglcwood, Waiorigona, Lepperton, and Urenui are in attendance. A meeting is to be held in the Harbor Board office on Monday evening for the purpose of considering the 'proposals or the Inglcwood Prospecting Association re the work they propose in tile Mokau district. Should prospecting lead to a discovery of petroleum or bituminous coal in the district it would be an excellent thing for this town.
