DISAFFECTION AMONG UNIONISTS
SECESSIONS FROM THE COUNCIL. By Telegrnpn.—Press Association. Christchurch, Tuesday. Although no secession from the Trades and Labor Council was announced on Saturday evening, the disaffection amongst the unions seems to be spreading rapidly. Several unions meet this week to consider the qu»stion of their allegiance, and two aime unions, the metalworkers' and r''* ironmouldcrs', have definitely decit'ed to withdraw. Several other secern/ions arc expected. No action hsis been taken by the disaffected unions to combine. A proposal to establish a body in opposition to the Trades Council has been discussed amongst individual members of unions, and the scheme may be prepared in a few days'. The result of the annual meeting of the Trades Council on Saturday did not have the effect of narrowing the breach. Most of the officers elected belong to the "red flag" section, as the socialists are called. The Parliamentary Bills Committee also contains some prominent socialists, old members being conspicuous by their absence', leaving the. field in possession of those who introduced general politics.
