A SOUP KITCHEN*OPENED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. flisbornc, Monday. A soup Tiitchen vas' opened on Saturday at the instance of the Salvation Army, but only one nian availed himself of it. At a meeting of the Trades Council, members expressed the opinion that a kitchen was .unnecessary, 'but called on the Municipal Council to do something to alleviate the distress of the unemployed of the district. AT CHRISTOHURCH. Cliris'tchurch, Last Night. ■The City Council to-night resolved to continue relief works for unemployed for another fortnight. It was stated that at Wellington the relief committee was receiving a ,£lfor £1 subsidy. The Mayor promised to make enquiries.
