PETROLEUM

OPERATIONS AT MOTUROA. The manager's report to tlie directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Co. for the week ending yesterday is as follows:

Since Friday, June 11, I have pulled Hie deep-well pump from where it was pumping, 108 feet from the bottom, 1.0 500 from the bottom, ns so near the bottom too much sand was coming in to it. Tli is work was completed on Monday, tlie 14th. The rods were again pulled oittlielo'tliancl replaced. The we!! pumped for the .week ending Saturday, 10th, 48 barrels. I pumped the well 11 hours per day from Monday, June 21, to Saturday, June 20 (the rod's being pulled on Tuesday), securing 00 barrels. Commenced pumping again at 12.15 a.m. on Monday, 2Sth, and renewed cups and pumped until Thursday, when cups when renewed again. The total production for the week ending Saturday, 3rd July was 82 'barrels. For the present week up to Friday morning, I have obtained 62 barrels, but during the week the well was shut down from 7 p.m. on Monday till 1 p.m. Tuesday. That quantity is exclusive of rough oil used for the furnace. The oil is much cleaner and there is not so much silt. Water comes out of the well much clearer. The underground tank is nearly full. At No. 3 well I have been engaged with the removal of the casing left h the well, and am pleased to say I succeeded yesterday in getting all 'the casing and will take the shoe out or cut it up on Monday next.

The casing mentioned above as recovered from No. 3 uvell was not that lost a year ago-that having been recovered some considerable time ago Last February some casing was lost just before the well was shut down, but for the past seven weeks the efforts which culminated successfully on Wednesday had been carried on."
