LONDON WOOL SALES. Talgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable message from their London house under date of yesterday:"Wool sales opened with a large attendance of buyers, and competition fairly animated." A poor selection is being offered, hardly any merinos being included. As compared with the closing rales of last scries, shabby coarse crossbred and stipe wools are 5 per cent, lower- other descriptions unchanged." Wellington, 7th July, 1900.
WEBSTER BROS.' : REPORT. Poultry.—List Saturday we had a fair entry, and prices still hold good. Pullets and voting hens were in demand. We had a small consignment of dressed poultry which sold from 7'/ 2 d to 9d per lb. 'Prices were as follows: Pullets, fair Is lid to 2s Bd, good 3s 4d; hens, young 2s (id to 2s lid, others 2s Id to 2s 3d, cockerels 2s to 2s 9d, ducks 2s 8d to 2s lOd. Sundries, fruit trees, and shrubs sold at satisfactory prices.
Confectionery.—On Friday We held a sale in our mart of Mrs. J. Tippins' stock-in-trade, when everything was sold at the hammer.
Fruit.—Supplies this week have been short with the exception of oranges, which arrived in very poor condition on Wednesday. Prices were: Oranges 5s 6d to 8s (id, bananas to lis (id; apples, Stunners 10s, others 7s (Id to Us fid; pears 12s fid, mandarins 7s 0(1 to 8s 9d, passions 5s Od, lemons 10s to 10s (id. peanuts 2 l / 3 d to 3d per lb, broccoli 7s 3d to 7s Ud sack, carrots 2s 9d, marrows to 4s, turnips 2s 9tl, parsnips 3s (Id, cabbages Is lid to 2s 9d, leeks 2s Od per sack.
TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE, AND TALLOW SALR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, Oth July, 1 held my usuil four-ivcckly sale of above produce. The catalogue 'comprised 1500 ox and cow hides, including 000 hides from the freezing works, 04 yearlings, 223 calfskins, 2793 sheepskins, 11 bales and 55 Sacks wool, 20 casks, 2 kegs, and 47 tins tallow, and the usual assortment of bones, horns, cowtails, etc. Wool and best lines of sheepskins were easier, in consequence of the fall reported from London and Antwerp since my last sale, end declined »/,d per lb, while inferior and damaged skins' were fully '/ 2 d per lb lower. 1 submitted a large catalogue of hides, and ones which attracted a full attendance of buyers, several representatives of outside tanneries being present, with the result that every line met with excellent competition throughout the sale. For one line of extra stout ox hides 'the record price of o%d per lb was-obtained, cipial to £2 lfls Id per hide, while another line of superior heavy cow realised o%d per lb, or £1 12s each. Other lines of ox and cow hides sold at prices equal to those ruling at my last sale, any change being in sellers' favor. Calfskins were eagerly sought for at up to as high as lOd per Hi for lie«L lines, the record price for Stratford sales'. ADDINGTON. At Addington on Wednesday store sheep formed a moderate entry, chieily composed of wethers and hoggets and a few lines of owes; There was practically no alteration in values. All classes, especially ewe hoggets, were in fair demand. Average lines of hoggets of mixed sexes made 0s Od to 10s 9d, small and inferior (mostly halfhrcds} 8s !ld to 10s Od, ewe hoggets' up to 14s sd, forward wethers 12s Od to 13s 3d, law-conditioned and inferior lines 10s to lis. The best lot of ewes Tvas a line of 2, 4, and fl-tooths, which made lfls 3d; aged lines, with a fair proportion of sound-mouth sheep, brought 10s 3d. old ewes' 8s Od to 10s.
The yarding of fat lambs was smaller than last week, and the quality showed a 'falling-oil. There was a fair demand for export, but prices were lower by about (id per head. A few tegs made 14s 3d to 15s Od, ordinary freezing weights 12s Od to 13s Od, light and unfinished 10s to 12s.
There was an unusually s'mall entry of store cattle, only about twenty coming forward. The demand was very weak, and poor prices were realised Yearlings sold up to 30s, dry cows 25s to £2 10s.
The entry of dairy cows was a small one. The majority were useful sorts of a (hotter date than has bec-.i seen at Addington for a few weeks. There was a fair demand, and prices ranged from £3 10s to £9 ss.
There was a good entry of pigs. Fats sold at last week's rates, and stores were in better demand, (.'hoppers sold up to £4 10s, heavy bocenrers 55s' to 04s, lighter 48s to 54s (equal to 4'/,<l per lb), large porkers 40s to 4Cs, lighter 33s to 38s (equal to a'/oil to 5%d per Hi), large stores 30s to :14s lid, medium 20s to 20s, wcanors Us (id to Ids'. The entry of fat sheep was about equal to that of last week incumber and quality, Included in the entry -were several lines of ewes and wethers from South Canterbury. There was a good demand. Wethers improved about Gd to 2s per head, while ewes showed a rise of Is to Is' Gd. iA fair number of wethers were purchased for export, and n buyer from the West Coast was also operating. Freezing wethers made 14s to 10s Gd, heavy Imtchcrs' weights lGs Oil to 18s 4d, light and unfinished 10s 8(1 to 13s Gd, merino wethers His, prime ewes' 14s to 15s fld, m-dium 12s to 13s od, aged and light 10s to lis Gd. The supply of beef iiumbered 330 head, and included a large proportion of prime quality. Several consignments of steers, heifers, and cows from the N'orth Island \wve .of excellent quality. DUNEDIN. 'At llurnside stock market 200 fat cattle were yarded, made up principally or medium bullocks, cows, and heifers, with a faw pens of prime beef.
