AMUSEMENTS.

ALL-STAR VAUDEVILLE COMPANY. The vile weather conditions of last evening doubtless prevented many New Plymouth theatregoers from attending the Theatre Royal to witness the opening nigh t of the All-Star Vaudeville Company's season. Those, however, who braved the elements seemed thoroughly satisfied with the menu presented, judging by the hearty manner in which almost every item was> applauded. The All Stars are a clever lot of periormers and the rapidity with which (he turns were presented last evening made wearisome waits conspicuous by their entire absence. Perhaps the best Item of the evening was the wonderful baton manipulation by Mr. George Sorlie. The marvellous dexterity with which this clever actor twisted and twirled a large brass baton gave the impression that the baton was, to say the least, bewitched. This artist's work as a coon impersonator was also a feature, the audience being kept in a perfect simmer of merriment by his quaint sallies. Messrs Shaw and Armour, patter comedians and burlesque boxers, gave a most amusing turn, and one that found much favor. Miss Pearlie Golden, a dainty scrio and dancer, Walter Jamieson, descriptive vocalist, and the Daphne sisters, serios and dancers, were all well worth hearing and seeing, and the audience were not slow in showing their appreciation of the effort* of these clever f.rtists. The performance concluded with a farcical comedietta, entitled "Thumbs Up." In this all the members of the troupe participated, the "funnyisms" of the piece sending.the audience home in great good humor.

TO-NIGHT. To-night will conclude the company's local season, and the management announces an entire change of programme. Those in search of a jolly two hours' amusement should witness to-night's I performance.
