In the course of tire censure debate some of the speakers claimed that the progressive land tax in New Zealand had failed in its objects of breaking up large estates and of keeping land values down. They predicted a similar failure here. The debate was adjourned until Tuesday.

PERSONAL ATTACKS: Melbourne, July 9. Sir William Lyne imparted life into the censure debate by making bitter personal attacks on members of Hie Cabinet over the fusion of the Deakin and Cook parties. He concluded by demanding an increased duty on timber and claimed that the industry was being ruined.
