DEPUTIES SENT TO GAOL. By Cable.'—Press Association, —Copyrigat London, July 4. As a sequel to the sugar frauds in Japan, twenty-three deputies of the Lower House havo received sentences ranging from three to ten months' imprisonment.

The Japan Sugar Company spent 120,000 yen in bribing fifty deputies to rtcure its' nationalisation. It ie improbable that the Constitutional .party, which controls the majority of the Diet, will rally from the blow. The public applaud the Government's energy, and believe that tho exposure will have 0 salutary 'effect in commercial circles. The scandal caused a great drop in shares, and many persons were ruined.
