DRY DISTRICTS.
To the Editor. Sir, —As the result of the last local option vote a number of hotels are referred to as having "gone dry." This appears a curious anomaly, as your of this morning publishes under t'Je heading of "beer duties" that the excise duty on beer manufactured in nolicense lnvercargill for the quarter ending June was £435 6's, as against £3GB 8s 3d fox the corresponding period of last year, or an increase of 5351 gallons. Apparently, sir, there is a good deal of dry humor in reference to these so-called dry districts, which perhaps I that versatile correspondent G. H. 11. I might be able to elucidate.—l am, etc., ENIGMA..
