Cygnet, appeared at the Lyttel ton Magistrate's Court this morning charged with carrying passengers on Aprif 12tli at Akaroa between the wharf mid the Mararoa in excess of the nunrher Specified in tin; certificate issiwl by tin* Secretary of Murine. The Department alleged the overcrowding occurred on the. Akaroa regatta day. The Cygnet was employed as tender between the shore and the' Mararoa. On the occasion in cpiestion she was crowded with excursionists, and on the voyage across rocked alarmingly, and many thought she was going to overturn. The Magistrate said 1 In* evidence given was with regard to the fore purl of the boat, and there was absolutely nothing to show what was the state of the afterpart. There was nut suflieieat evidence to make him consider the boat, was overcrowded, and the case would iie ilismi-.iei!. I
SOLICITOUS EXONERATED. Dunedin, Monday. The petition by the law Society to the Supreme Court to exercise disciplinary Jurisdiction in regard to Moore and Moore, solicitors, in respect to PoyntzV case, was dismissed with costs. His Honor said the One charge of the Uiw Society, and proved untrue, was flint defendant misappropriated moneys received, and Hie suggestion that they had fattened upon the provisions made for their client was nbs>>!ulely untrue. His Honor hoped this would receive as wide publicity as the original charges. |
