REMODELLING SYDNEY.
A HUGE SCHEME. Sydney, June 26. The final report of the' City Improvement Commission, which has been sitting since May of last year, has recommended a comprehensive scheme for remodelling Sydney. It includes: The immediate introduction of underground electric railways in the city and suburbs. Widening Elizabeth street the entire length to not less than 100 feet. Creating, widening and improving some other streets and other recommendations. Generally beautifving and developing the city. ' Tlie removal of the Pynnont bridge. Providing new traflic routes to tho wharves. Dealing with the slum areas and housing reforms were also considered.- The scheme 'will meet the needs of traffic for the next twenty-five years, at the end of which time, at the present rate of increase, the estimated population of the city and suburbs will be a million and a-quarter.
