AX INCIDENT RECALLED. At the recent meeting of the Tau marunm Licensing Cuimnittee, the chairi man, Mr. li. tj. Jfitzlierberfr, S.M., made i comment upon wliat he termed the curious procedure" adapted bv Mr. T. . A. Harris, who appeared lor the Wai- , raariuo Comity Council in objection to the granting of wholesale licenses in the- Kaetihi and surrounding districts. Mr Harris, entered the box as a witness, and it was ascertained that he had filed an application, on behalf of a Mr Dauphin, for the granting of a license Inat application did not come befor, the meeting, having .been withdrawn a transpires that Mr, Dauphin wasom of those who had instructed Mr. Harri to appear in opposition to the grautin of any licenses, and had also signed th memorial to tire committee with th same oibjeet in view. Questioned b the Magistrate, Mr. Harris stated tha he had given Mr. Dauphin to undei stand clearly that, whilst he was pre pared to file the application, he intend ed personally to do everything in hi power to prevent any licenses beini granted m the district at all. Mi Dauphin gave him the business upothat undertsanding. _ There seems to have been some feel mg in Raetihi concerning this, and th Raetihi No-license League, at a meetin on Monday last, carried the followin resolution:—"That this League, havin m view the published reports of th recent annual meeting of the Taiimam am Licensing Committee, and having acertained from Mr. Dauphin the who! circumstances connected with his appl cation for a wholesale license does e> .press continued and unabated confk ence in the integrity of Mr. T. A. Hai ris in his professional capacity, as we as in his capacity as counsel for th League at the licensing meeting held r Waitara on June 4th last."
