ENCROACHMENT OP EOCLESIASHCISM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A meeting of the newly-formed Laymen's League was .held to-night for the purpose of presenting {he manifesto drawn up. The chairman (Mr. J. Dawson) said one of the main objects of the League was to defend the rights' pf the laiety against encroachment of ccclciiasticism in mutton; of church government «ii<! church ritual. Mr. \V. J. Speight referred to the gradual creeping in of Romanism into Hie eluiich, and said the League would strive to' combat thnt. The meeting, which was | an enthusiastic one, adopted the manifesto submitted.
