In replying to Lord Cury.on's toast yesterday* nt the luncheon til Oxford to the Press delegates, Mr. Haekett (Westraliii) declared that the overseas universities were moulded on the lines of Oxford and Cambridge, whence they had drawn the inspiration which made the colonial universities formidable rivals to the old seats' of learning, The colonies had been drawn in a special manner closer to Oxford by the Rhodes bequest. The colonies were unable 'o recognise Oxford University as the-pro-perty of Oxford. It was rather the po»- ■ session of the whole Empire.

The delegates expressed thems'olvea as intensely interested in the Sheffield industries.
