ARBITRATION COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christcliurch, Last Night. The Arbitration Gourc has given an mti'ijiretatiou under clause 8 of the Can tcrbury hotel and restaurant employees' award. The question submitted 'was. could servants be compelled now to become members of the union who ha I been in the service of 1111 botel-keeper at the time the award came into force, hut who were now working for aiiolncr empluycr who had since purchased the hotel? Defendant said it was pure error on his part, and lie undertook to pay arrears. The MagisIrate imposed a line of 20s and costs on each charge. Charles James Jones j pleaded guilty to paying a boy less than the .minimum wage stipulated by the timber yards and sawmillers* award.and to paying a carpenter less than prescribed in the carpenters' award. He was lined 20s and costs on each charge. ('. -Wilson admitted paying plasterers less than the minimum rate of wages, lie was lined ills and costs on each charge, while two men for accepting under-rate wages were each lined 10s and costs.
