PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY JIEETING. (From Our Own Corespondent.) The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Rahotu on Wednesday last. Pre- 1 sent: Messrs. J. Young (chairman), Bowman, T.\ Hawcy, O. Jones, A. ii. Phillips, and R. Warner. At the special meeting the tender of H. Corbett was accepted a.t £2 3a 6d per chain for metalling nine chains on Runltere ro-.ul. The work lias since been satisfactorily completed. Bayly Road.—Resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Warner and Harvey, that two chains additional metalling be done. Upper Kattui Road. —Resolved, that Mr. Wilton be allowed £3 14s' 8d for formation done, valued at about £lO. Opu'a Road.—lt was decided, on the motion of Messrs. Warner and Phillips, to have twelve chains of draining done, Mr. Bowman agreeing to pay for the amount and wait a year for half of the money and two years for the balance. It wiil cost 30s per Aim. Pipes.—Resolved, on the motion, of Messrs. Jones and Warner, that thc| foreman get a new 3ft mould for making I pipes. Opua Bridge.—Resolved, that the fore-1 man'let the contract for a concrete top. on Opua bridge. I Nuisances.—Resolved, that complaints from settlers re nuisances from pigsties,' etc., be referred to -the Stock Inspector. Opouraipa- Road. Messrs. J. Clarke and E. Dull'en waited on the Board re extras on their contract. The late overseer re-ported that the extras aanomted l to £lO 13s lOd. The ililtorencc between what the contractors claimed and what the overseer reported was 10ft.—Resolved, that the amount as recommend-. -ed for extras be paid. Ngiariki Koad.—Messrs. J. Lawn, T. Billing, iR. Hill, and Ward waited onj the Board re heavy loads being carried
in the winter. They wanted them: amended to save, the roads. It was no
use putting metal on the road and having it buried. Resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Warner and Bowman, that the road be left as at present until after next meeting. It wius decided to have the by-laws amended by providing for lighter loads'.
Ncwall Road—Messrs. Cassie and Duoker waited on the Board and asked for tlio 10 per cent, on the loan to ho raised, and after interest lmd been paid to have £0 spent, in putting metal further along 'the road. They expressed satisfaction at the manner in which the Board had carried out the work.—lt was decided to see about getting the 10 per cent, on the loan and see how it can' be applied. It was also decided to a ttend to a culvert on the same road. Tipoika Road. .Mr. W. R. Wright waited on the Board complaining nbont some water turned on to his property in consequence of the Board having a culvert .made.—Resolved, that the foreman report at next meeting.—Mr. Wright also wanted bhc Board to deepen a drain two feet, and he would pay half the cost.—Foreman to report. Kina Road.—Contractor M'ayon waited on the Board, asking if he can leave the contract until the road is suitable for carting over.—.Resolved, that it.be left in the hands of the foreman to allow him to cense work and also to notify him when the road is flt to work on again.
Joint Loan,—The clerk was instructed to apply to the Werekino Road Board for its proportion of the Puniho road loan. , Opua.. Road.—-Mr. Bowman said a
settler was complaining about the overflow of water on his land.—Foreman to report.—lt was decided to get 1% miles of side-track grabbed in order to let the settlers made a side-track. Lower Waitcika, Road.'— Resolved, that the foreman inspect the road ind' report on some formation which wis supposed to have been done months ago.
Ranger. Mr. Phillips said settlers wanted some better arrangement with reference to the work df the ranger.— It was decided to call the ranger's attention to ih'is ncglwt of duty. Safe.-ißesolved, that the snare safe be offered fov sal'e at £7 10s. Upper Punihio Road—A letter was read 'from P. Old re water being diverted on to ,his property, caused *throii"h work done on the road.-Thc foreman said he understood the water hn-s been turned to its natural watercourse—lt was decided that the foreman inspect and report. Sick Pay.-M. Hill „„-,] I). Anglesey asked the Board what could be allowed tliem for time lost through being sick caused through the work of the Board.-' Held over.
Pound.—The chairman said he understood .from the poundkeepor that if the Board put its liors'e in the pound paddock he .would give up the position, as lie wanted the grass for the stock impounded.—Resolved, that the Board use the pound paddock for its horse (Proposed by 'Mr. Warner, seconded bv Mr. Harvey). ''
