BIG LOSS OF LIFE. I Batavia, June 10. j An earthquake and a tidal wave were experienced at Sumatra. Three hundred and thirty were killed and many injured. Sumatra is an island in the Tndian Ocean, called Java Minor by Mar.:o Polo. In 1824 the Dutch acquired all the British interests in Sumatra in exchange for Malacca and some possessions in India. The island suffered much by the volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of August 26th and 27th. 1883.
