Various recommendations were adopted. it was 1-esolved: (1) That tne piewmt nietnod of voting I,y making a cross be replaced >y tin- simpler method of drawiii.r a line through tin, name; (2) that when a vacancy occurs in a council during six months prior to the biennial election, the council have power to fill the vacancv; (a) that t/ic present method of payment to the the commissioners lor local investment yields better results than if invested by the Public Trustee in Government securities; (4) that the Association oppose the proposal to permit auctioneers to appoint substitute holders of tlieir licenses; (5) that the <iuestion of establishing a joint superanuu' tion fund be deferred until next conference; ((j) that the Government be requested to bring in legislation providing that the Crown shall .pay rates on proI pcrtiee owned by the Government until a reliable occupier comes into occupation; (7) that the attention of the Government be drawn to the fact that where education reserves are leased for short periods tile local authorities cannot levy rates, and that the Government introduce legislation under which it would pay rates on these resmrvtn; (8) that the additional charge of ten' per cent, should become payable after six months from the date upon whici; raves first become recoverable, irrespective of whether they are sued for or not; (I)) that the Hating Act lie also amended to provide for the amalgamation of rates levied on the same area on the same basis; (10) that returning officers supply town clerks with marked rolls after each election to enable them to purge the roll at the dates fixed by tile Municipal Corporations Act.
