TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The Taranaki Agricultural Society's committee met on Tuesday evening. There were present: .Messrs \V. Ambiiry, in Ue chair, \V. Stanley, S. J. Smith, A. N. Mills, Street (2), ii. 11. Pigott and A. W. Wood. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs F. Watson and A Cliff. ' KEsIITS TO CONFERENCE. It was decided to forward the lollowing remits to the annual conference of Agricultural Societies : That the (ioverunieut be asked to examine for soundness all stud horses standing for the service of breeders in the Doniiniun, with a view of issuing certificates of soundness.
That before any bulls are offered for sale at public auction for stud purposes a certificate of soundness must be produced, signed by the vendor and the Government Inspector. That Government appointments of all agricultural inspectors he made trom certificated men for each separate department. BUTTERFAT COMPETI I'IUXS.
A letter was read from Mr. A. Buchanan, of Paluierston North, ollenng a donation to the prize fund and suggesting that two guineas of it be used in providing prizes for a butterfat competition on the lines of the Paluierston competition, the cows to bo under the control of tlie Society for ten days, and to be bred from purebred registered
Mr. A. H. Street, of Bell Block, ollered to place at the disposal ot the owcicty two convenient paddocks and stabling accommodation in the event of it being decided to hold the competition.
.Messrs Buchanan and Street were accorded the hearty thanks of the Society for their generous treatment, and a committee was set up, comprising the President, Smith, and Wood, to view fie paddocks and report at next monthly meeting. t PLOUGIIING COMPETITIONS.
' The sub-eimnuittee set up in connection with the proposal to hold a ploughing match under the auspices of the Society reported that owing to lack ot competitors it would not be advisable to initiate the competitions this year.
GEXEiiAL, A sub-committee of three was set up to arrange show dates. It was decided to write to the Waganui A. and P. Association, asking them to endeavour to fix their show dates one week earlier than at present arranged. *' The offer of the New Zealand Jersey Bleeders' Association to present two gold medals for competition in the pedigree Jersey section at the next annual show was accepted with thanks. The following' menuers were added to the committee; Messrs. 11. Gilbert, A. McL. Thomson, G. Bishop, J, R. Hill, ,1. S. Connett, F. W. Fagan, G. Colson, Hy. King, K. C. Webster, S. Teed, A. Morton, and S. Guscott. Messrs Smith, Malone, and lilundell were ap|iointed a finance committee. Tin- secretary was instructed to write to the .Minister for Agriculture, asking .hint to send ids experts from the several departments to lecture in this district. A small committee was set np to malt. 1 any arrangements necessary. It was decided to issue circulars to ladies, requesting membership. A mem her of the commit'tec offered to defray the 'expenses incurred. 'Mrs. M. Ciisaek and .Messrs. h. W. Birdling and K. G. Blcakley were electel members of the Society. The appointment of a delegate to the conference of Agricultural Societies, to be held in Wellington next August, was left till next meeting. .
