WHANSAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above took place on Wednesday, '2oth instant, the members present ibeing: Crs. W. A. McCu'U-han (chair), J. M. Jones. J. Anderson, R. McCluggage, A. Meredith, and T. Mcllroy. Prior to commencement of ordinary business a motion was passed expressing the Council's condolence and sympathy with Mrs. Vincent Jackson in her recent sad bereavement.

The engineer's report was read, and on the motion of Crs. McCntehan and Anderson, adopted, It was resolved, on the motion of Councillors Meredith and Mcllroy, that the engineer be empowered to obtain metal for the (Hurra Road in the Strathmore Riding wherever possible. The chairman was empowered to sign the necessary form of consent in connection with the Tahora Road deviations adjoining Mr. Robertson's property.

The clerk was instructed to furnish to the Xew Zealand County Councils Association the information requested by it in connection, iwlth the superannuation scheme.

In reply to a communication from the Clifton County Council regarding differential rating in special loan areas, it was decided, on the motion of Councillors McCutcihan, and McCluggage, to inform the Clifton County Council that the Council approves of the principle of differential rating in regard to certain sections included in loan areas, but is of opinion that the promoters' of the movement should work out a scheme which would overcome some very tangible dillkultieij before requesting support for an amendment to existing legislation.

In response to the Stratford County Council's suggestion, that the Whanga*liiomoiiii County Council should nominate a representative to fill the vacancy on the Stratford Hospital and OharilrJhlo Aid Hoard caused by Mr. W. A. McCutchan's resignation therefrom, it was' resolved to forward the 1131116 of Cr. A. Meredith.

The chairman was authorised to sign and seal tlie Council's consent to the Mangare Road deviations.

On the motion of Ci's. McClugga"e and Mcllroy, M. O'Neill was granted a renewal of his slaughtering license. 'Messrs. King and Bacon waited on the Council complaining that the ranger had impounded their stock (their sections not being fcnlced), and further represented that he had allowed his' own and other stock to remnin'on the roads. —The chairman, in reply, said that definite charges would have to be made before the Council could take any action. Cr. MeCutchan gave notice of motion to move at the next meeting a resolution in the direction of requiring due notice to be given before any gate is erected across any bye-road. A special order'in,'connection with the raising of the 10 per cent, additional on the Ko'liurat'ahi Road loan was instituted.

In accordance with his notice of motion. Cr. MtC'luggagc moved the institution of a spccral order making by-laws for the regulation of billiard-rooms within the county. (The by-laws adopted ,were those now, in operation in the Stratford County.? In reply to letters from Messrs. Spence and Cooper asking for billiardroom licenses at Pohokura, it was decided to quote to the nwlieants the clause in 'tlie by-laws dealing with applications, (ind that they be a'sked to comply witli the requirements of same. Cr. Jones reported that settlers on the Upper Mangaehu Road wished further expenditure to be made on, the formation, and oil the motion of Crs'. Jones and Meredith it Was resolved to call tenders for two contracts for one mile of formation on the Upper Mangaehu Road.

On the motion of Crs. MeCutchan and Meredith, the following resolution was then passed:-That in order to det-r----mine the rate levy for the current venr the engineer be requested to furnish the Council at next meeting 1111 approximation, separately for each riding, of the county's probable requirements, inclusive of a sum of £450 for county offices and strong-room,
