The shiji Sophie arrived from Anton with beriberi fever (iin Eastern disease marked by anaemia, paralysis and dropsical symptoms) aihoard. ' Two seamen died and four are still iick. Tlie Sophie, which was 125 days out, was 'becalmed fur weeks near the' South Amcriean coast.
