A "BREEZY" MEETING

A .SECTARIAN FIGHT IN HAWERA. Uy Telegraph.—Press Association. 1 law-era, Tuesday. 'Extraordinary excitement arose last night over the election of a- school committee .for the Haweru District High School. Originally party strife ivas provoked Ivy the friends of Mr. p. O'Dea circularising the district with a view to securing the return of school committees favorable to Mr. O'Dea's election as a member of the Wanganui Judication Hoard. These circulars were denounced by Air. E. Dixon, the -present member of the Hoard, as.being a Roman Catholic movement on behalf of Air. O'Dea. Immediately a semi-sectarian fight began and at the school committee election three .weeks ago Air. O'llea was elected. That election was upset on account of Air. Lust night a fresh election was held and :«•»« preceded Iby unusually vigorous canvassing, the whole affair approximating to an electoral campaign and fir exceeding in interest unv civic contest ever held in Hawera. '

Cabs were engaged by what may be called Mr. O'Dea'* party, and these were rattling voters to the poll until midnight. The old committee was largely identified wit], the church and no-license party, and seven out of the nine of the old committeemen were returned by a fairly sulis'tanlial major-
