ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A RAILWAY FATALITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The tally of William King was found near the railway line about n miJe south of Hay-ward's on Sunday morning. At an inquest to-day it was stated that deceased was unmarried and 28 years of age. Evidence pointed to the fact that deceased who, one witness said, bad on .Saturday night been slightly under the influence of liquor, 'had sat 'down on a sleeper and been struck by the engine of a passing train. A verdict of accidental death was returned. A SHUNTER KILLED, Wanganui, Monday. A casual railway hand named Alex. Mackny, 45 year/ of age, was killed this afternoon at t'he railway yard, lie did not see the trucks* being shunted toward him and was killed instantly.
FATALITIES NEAR GISBORNE. Gisborne, Monday. Two fatalities are reported from ltuiikituri station. A man named Victor Berg wiw killed whilst bushfalling, a tree coming down on him. A Maori boy was drowned in the Kunlcitnri river. SAWMILL ACCIDENT. Taiinipe, Last Night. Mr. Burrell, manager at Irvine's mill, Tnrangnrcrc, had his leg badly crushed, and a doctor was sent from here by special .train. After attending to the sufferer he had him sent .to the Wanganui hospital, the proprietor of tihe mill defraying the expense of the special trains. FATAL LANDSLIP. TaWinpe, Last Night. A .fatal accident at lioeke, caused by a landslip, buried Alexander Pringle, a laborer, of llunterville, and two others. Pringle was dead When (lug out, but the others were not seriously injured. Some 40 men were engaged on the rescue. AN INFANT'S DEATH. Duncdin, Last Night. An inquest was held this afternoon <Mt jtlhe body of an infant born of n single woman 'named Isabella Maxwell, who worked as a domestic servant at Mornington. The post -mortem examination showed the child .had not breathed. Illie doctor said that in all probability 'had a doctor or nurse been present at the birth respiration. would have taken place. After further evidence had •been given, the inquest was adjourned pending the recovery of the mother.
RUN OVER BY A CART. Dunedin, Last Night. A single man named Robert Taylor, a corporation laborer, was killed this afternoon >by falling off this cart, the wheel of which passed over hiin. Deceased's mother resides at Blue Spur, Lawrence. A WOMAN'S SUICIDE. Auckland, Last Night. On May 21st, it was reported that Mrs. Kenny, of Manunui, a boarding-house-keeper, was missing from her home, and it was Relieved that she had committed suicide by jumping into the Wangamii river. To'-day Inspector Cutlcn received a wire' from Constable MMier. of TaiMiiarunui, stating that yesterday he recovered the body of Mrs. Kenny from the Wangamii river soma distance below the supposed sfeene Of the tragedy.
